Darrell Ashley Dudney Announces Candidacy for Tampa City Council, District 5 Special Election
Tampa Native, Business Owner, and Community Advocate Aims to Bring Fresh Perspective to City Hall
TAMPA, FL – Darrell Ashley Dudney, a lifelong Tampa resident, small business owner, father, and engaged community member, has officially announced his candidacy for Tampa City Council District 5 in the upcoming special election.
Dudney, who goes by Ash, is well-known in the community as the owner of two beloved local businesses located within District 5. With deep roots in the area and a passion for grassroots change, Dudney is stepping into the political arena for the first time with a bold vision centered on equity, accessibility, and opportunity.
“This is about representing the voice of the district in its entirety,” said Dudney. “I'm here to be a liaison between the community and city hall.”
His platform focuses on three core issues:
Support for Small Businesses – Advocating for policies that uplift businesses making under $1 million annually, improving communication of city projects & the affected businesses, and fostering a more inclusive local economy.
Affordable Housing – Protecting the 45% of our population that rents from exploitation, further supporting city programs for first-time homebuyers, and expanding the city's efforts to create affordable housing.
Public Transportation – Working to improve transit infrastructure, frequency, and access across the district, especially in underserved areas.
Dudney’s campaign emphasizes people-first policies shaped by real-life experience. As a father and partner, he understands the everyday struggles of working families. As a business owner, he’s seen firsthand how policy decisions affect local entrepreneurs. And as a son of Tampa, he brings a unique understanding of the district’s history, challenges, and immense potential.
“I believe we can collectively change our communities for the better, with an emphasis on letting Tampa be Tampa,” he said.
